Summer Housing, within the Office of Residential Life, works collaboratively with various departments from across the University of Notre Dame to welcome over 10,000 students and guests residentially in our residence halls over the summer months. Those who reside for various periods of time over the summer include: undergraduate and graduate students (both degree and non-degree seeking), high school students in academic or mission-related programs, youth sports camps, and adult conference guests attending a wide variety of academic and mission-related conferences under the Dome.

There are three components Summer Housing strives for during the summer months, beginning the Monday following Commencement Weekend until the end of July:

Developing Students to Become Leaders in their Residence Halls: We create opportunities for our student staff to grow and develop their leadership skills through a Summer Hall Staff experience in the hall communities over the summer months. Our goal is to encourage students to take on a summer hall staff position early on in their college year as a way to explore the possibility of becoming an RA, or taking on a significant hall leadership role during their junior and/or senior years in the residence halls.

Fostering Community in the Residence Halls: Regardless the types of groups residing in the halls, our mission is to continue the good work of sustaining a nurturing hall community through the summer housing operation, welcoming all connecting students and guests of different ages, backgrounds, cultures and purpose into our residence halls, who are staying for various amounts of time.

Stewardship of Our Residence Hall Communities: We recognize the need and value our residence halls provide to various departments and programs on campus who wish to take part in residing in our residential system here at Notre Dame. We also recognize the need to ensure these hall communities continue to thrive year to year, serving the undergraduate students who call these halls their home during the academic year. In this, we strive to meet the needs of all in the greater mission, while ensuring proper care is given back to these halls to welcome back, or for the first time, or students in the fall.
