Rector

Sara Thoms

Sara Thoms

Sara Thoms is a Michigan native and grew up on lakes, bike trails, and ski hills. Her passion for the formation of young women stems from her own experience at an all-girls Catholic high school in the Detroit area. She received a B.A. in Humanities and Theology from Villanova University where she was actively involved in new student orientation, Special Olympics, theater productions, and campus ministry activities including faith formation groups and service immersion experiences. Her desire to grow in faith and serve the Church led her to Notre Dame where she completed her Master of Divinity degree while serving for two years as an Assistant Rector. It was there that Sara fell in love with the ministry of serving college students in Notre Dame's residence halls. Sara has also been involved in various other ministries including: restorative justice in education, RCIA, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, and directing retreats. After surviving countless midwest winters and upon completion of her Master of Divinity, Sara moved to sunny Arizona to teach high school Theology and direct Kairos retreats at an all-girls high school in Phoenix.

You can find Sara curled up with a good book and cup of tea, doing yoga, sending snail mail, or going for walks around campus with her pup, Lady, who is affectionately named after Our Lady's University.

When asked about her motivation to return to Notre Dame and Residence Life in this new role, Sara responded, "There is no other collegiate residential life experience like that of Notre Dame. Here, you're brought into a family that seeks to make every member feel known and loved. I look forward to sharing life with the women and men of Notre Dame in our residence halls and across campus, drawing out their gifts to build up the Notre Dame family into people called to a higher purpose -- serving God and others."
