Student Summer Housing

Summer housing is available to enrolled Notre Dame undergraduate and graduate students after commencement through the conclusion of the summer session term. Each year, several hundred undergraduate and graduate students call our residence halls home as they study in summer courses and/or participating in summer research. Our summer student halls are led by several Summer Rectors, full-time professionals who bring their expertise in student formation and housing administration, and supported by undergraduate Community Assistant hall staff teams. While we know each summer student's time on-campus is unique, we strive to develop a community based on faith, formation, and support.

Summer 2026 Housing Rates

For undergraduate and graduate students, the standard room rate for Summer 2026 is $33.50/night ($234.50/week). This rate is the same if a student lives in a single room, double room, or quad. There are a limited number of single room types available for the summer. These are awarded first-come, first-served with a priority for students with medical accommodations.

Graduate students may have the option to live in a double room and "buy out" the room so to not have a roommate. This private room option for Summer 2026 is $44/night ($308/week).

Eligibility for Summer Student Housing

Summer student housing is available to enrolled, Notre Dame undergraduate and graduate students. These undergraduate and graduate students must be enrolled in summer academic work for 0 or more credit hours (including research and internships registered academically with the Summer Sesssion). Students who serve as essential staff as part of a residential summer program or as a member of Residential Life Summer Hall Staff are also eligible for summer housing.

Research opportunities or internships not registered academically do not count toward eligibility for on-campus summer housing. Students registered academically with the Registrar's Office for Summer Session are deemed eligible for on-campus housing.

Summer Student Housing Application & Contract

All students staying in undergraduate and graduate student housing during the Summer 2026 session are required to complete a housing application, which can be found online at HomeUnderTheDome.nd.edu. This application should be completed at least three business days prior to arrival. As a part of the application, all students must read and agree to the Summer 2026 Student Housing Contract. The housing application will be available online beginning April 15, 2026, and will close no later than July 17, 2026.

Hall Amenities & Room Furnishings

Undergraduate and graduate student summer housing is located in across six, air-conditioned residence halls. These halls traditional-style residence halls with common rooms, community kitchens and bathrooms, and standard dorm rooms. Each residence hall has a community laundry room, which is free to use for residents. Each room is outfitted with a student desk, a desk chair, a bed, and a wardrobe or built-in unit for clothes. Most beds are extra-long twin (an 80” mattress). Rooms do not come with linens, pillows, or other supplies; residents are expected to bring their own personal items, such as Twin XL fitted sheet, pillow, and hangers, etc. Please refer to our Undergraduate Room Information and Policies: Furnishings webpage for more information.

Check In

Summer students should make arrangements to check-in with Summer Residential Life Staff, which are available from 7 p.m. - 12 a.m. (midnight) each evening. During the check-in process, your digital student ID will be activated to access the hall and room you are living in for the summer (30-45 minutes after check-in for the activiation to be complete). If you are residing in a hall with student rooms that still use brass keys, you will be loaned a brass room key to access your assigned room. It is best to allow a moment for your digital student ID to activitate prior to beginning the official move-in process, especially if you have to make multiple trips into the residence hall to unload your belongings. The best window of time to arrive to the hall, any day of the week, is between 7 p.m. - 12 a.m. (midnight) daily. If you are needing to arrive outside of this recommended timeframe, other arrangements can be arranged with Summer Hall Staff or with the Office of Residential Life.

Active Student Digital ID

Student residents need to have an active student digital ID card for their stay in the residence halls. If you don't have an active digital ID card, please visit the Campus Card Office resolve anything related to having an active ID card. If arrival is outside business hours, please coordinate with hall staff to arrange for temporary access to the hall.

Limited Vehicle Access at Residence Hall for Unloading

Many of our residence halls do not have immediate access to a campus road. Please be expected to find the nearest temporary parking zone, or approved parking lot to unload items to your summer residence hall. A limited amount of move-in carts/bins are availabile at each hall to assist with moving items in; just ensure carts/bins are returned to Summer Hall Staff promplty once you are moved in.

Check Out

Student residents should make arrangements with the summer hall staff of their assigned residence hall to check out in-person. If they are not able to make arrangements with staff in the building, please reach out to the main Office of Residential Life for further assistance. A check-out needs to happen in person, or process needs to be agreed on to ensure a student is properly checked out, and in good standing, as they depart summer housing. An in-person check-out is the student's opportunity to return any keys or cards loaned out to them, as well as to ensure they have completed all steps to depart their room with Summer Hall Staff. Here are a couple of items to consider as students prepare to depart:

All university provided furniture is present in the room including: bed frame (including side rails), mattress, desk, desk chair and if applicable, wardrobe
Personal items and trash are removed (including food from common kitchen spaces)
Room and surfaces are swept clean
Keys, including mailbox keys, are returned to Summer Hall Staff

There are no donation sites/bins during the summer months. Therefore, if you have unwanted items, you need to make sure these items are vacated from your room. All trash needs to go to the nearest outside dumpster.

Common Kitchen Notes:

If you used a kitchen in the residence hall, please remove any remaining food supply and personal cooking utensils. Summer Hall Staff has the right to remove any food supply that is not labeled and/or spoiling in the refrigerator as a way to maintain a clean community space for all to utilize.

Lost Keys or Damage Charges

All keys and cards should be returned to Summer Hall Staff before departing campus. If keys and/or cards leave campus, they will be marked as lost. Students will be charged for keys through their student account. This also applies for any damages caused to the room.

Campus Dining

Meal plans are not included as a part of your room accommodation. Campus Dining operates at least one dining hall during the summer months (beginning generally after the first weekend in June through late July), as well as select retail locations. Please visit the Campus Dining website to learn more about purchasing meal plans, dining locations, and hours of operation.

You are highly encouraged to purchase a meal plan, even if it is a partial meal plan. Kitchen spaces have limited space and availability in the halls, and are not adequate for cooking three meals per day. Time and space in hall kitchens is determined by the ratio of residents to kitchen space in the hall. A great selection of alternative dining options are available across campus throughout the summer.

Parking

Limited parking on-campus is available to Notre Dame students, though these parking lots may not be located adjacent to your residence hall. Please visit Parking Services' website to learn more about parking on-campus and find answers to any questions related to parking on-campus. All vehicles must have a parking permit issued from the Parking Services Office to park on campus. Students can purchase the permit from the ParkND portal or stop by the Parking Services office to purchase one. Visitors must use Park Mobile, Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 4 PM. Faculty and staff should stop by the Parking Services office to receive a hang tag. The Parking Services office is located in Grace Hall on the first floor.
