Stanford Hall
Built in 1957, Stanford Hall was the gift of Effa Stanford in memory of her late husband, University lay trustee Grattan T. Stanford ’04. The hall shares an entrance lounge, chapel, and friendly rivalry with the adjoining Keenan Hall. The men of Stanford Hall take on the aspirational title, Men of Virtue, as a way of signaling to ourselves and others the importance of striving to live a virtuous life. The men of Stanford host a variety of events each year, including the annual pirate dance, the Stanford Hall Communio Retreat, and our signature event hosted on the Friday prior to Fat Tuesday--Mardi Scraw. The hall also sends a group of residents to volunteer monthly at Cultivate Food Rescue and Our Lady of the Road. Stanford was last named Hall of the Year most recently in 2020-2021. Stanford has also won the men’s interhall trophy, the O’Leary Cup, the last three years, 2022-2023, 2023-2024, and 2024-2025.
Rector
Rev. Chris Brennan, C.S.C.
Fr. Chris Brennan, C.S.C., is a proud South Bend native and graduate of the University of Notre Dame. Having grown up in the area and encountering a number of Holy Cross priests and religious, Fr. Chris felt called after high school to enter Old College, the undergraduate seminary for the Congregation of Holy Cross. Fr. Chris earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and theology in 2012 and a master of divinity degree in 2017. In his last year of seminary formation he was able to serve as an assistant rector in the inaugural year of Dunne Hall. Following his graduate studies, Fr. Chris was assigned to Holy Redeemer Parish in Portland, Oregon, where he served one year as a deacon, and following his ordination in April of 2018, served there for two years as a priest. In addition to serving the parish, he was involved in high school and prison ministry.
Since July of 2020, Fr. Chris has been the rector of the Stanford Hall Griffins. During his time as rector, Fr. Chris has been able to see the Holy Spirit work in and through his residents. He feels blessed to be able to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with his residents, see them grow over four years, and more often than not to see the Men of Virtue witness to the love of the Father in the way they build community and care for each other.
While in formation and as a priest, Fr. Chris has had the opportunity to see the diversity of the Body of Christ in many parts of the world, including Honduras, Western Europe, Bangladesh, East Africa, Israel, and Guatemala. Fr. Chris is the youngest of four boys and has a brother who is also a Catholic priest.
