Undergraduate Community at Fischer

Undergraduate Community at Fischer

Located in Buildings 1-8 in the Fischer Graduate Residences, the Undergraduate Community at Fischer (UCF) is home to approximately 80 male and female sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The apartments in Fischer house two students and feature a private bedroom for each student, one shared bathroom for the unit, and a furnished living and kitchen space. This undergraduate residential community features many of the things distinctive to a Notre Dame residential experience, such as a Rector, Hall Staff, and formation in community with the independent living of apartment-style housing.

UCF is a part of the Fischer complex of buildings located on the northeast side of campus, near Johnson Family Hall. It features a community center for all residents, which includes common social space, laundry facilities, administrative offices, and a chapel. The UCF will be led by a Rector, who is a full-time professional staff member living in community with undergraduate students at Fischer. Just like in traditional halls, the Rector will be supported by a staff comprised of male or female graduate and professional students serving in the Assistant Rector role and male or female senior undergraduate students in the Resident Assistant role, Priest In-Residence, Staff In-Residence, and the Office of Residential Life.

Beatrice Comty-Charnock

Beatrice Comty-Charnock was born in Scotland and raised in London, England; Montreal, Canada; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Minneapolis, Minnesota. She attended Carleton College and received an honors degree in political science and foreign studies from the University of Minnesota. After working as an assistant press secretary on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., raising a family in Virginia, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, Beatrice owned and operated a Culver’s restaurant for eight years before going back to graduate school and receiving a M.A. in psychology from Adler Graduate School. For the past 11 years she has been working as a marriage and family therapist and drug and alcohol counselor, with seven of the years in her own psychotherapy practice in Brainerd, MN. Before arriving at Notre Dame, Beatrice served in various ministries in her church community: lector; Schola Choir; Secular Franciscans 3 rd Order; Sisters-in-Christ; FUSE; and Eucharistic Adoration. Beatrice has five sons – four of whom attended Notre Dame – and is familiar with the hall system and Irish football. Beatrice loves traveling, hiking, singing, meeting people, and attending daily mass.

“As you get to know me, it will become apparent my Catholic faith is paramount - it is my navigation system - and practicing ‘an attitude of gratitude’ is my secret to being happy in an ever-changing world. I am excited to join the University of Notre Dame community and for the opportunity to share my sense of adventure, curiosity, and passion for life with Our Lady’s students entrusted into my care.”
