Campus Access for Move-Out

In order to facilitate a safe and efficient move-out, students moving out of their residence halls will be required to display a temporary 30-minute parking permit provided at the Main or East Gate beginning Monday, May 6 or proceed through a staging lot (May 10 and 11) prior to being released to their hall to load belongings during peak days for student move-out.

30-minute loading zones outside of the Residence Halls will be enforced beginning Monday, May 6. Time spent in these zones is for active loading, please be sure your items are ready to move to your vehicle when using the loading zones. Until you are ready to move items from your hall guests may park in public lots on campus.

All vehicles accessing residence hall loading zones beginning Monday, May 6 for move-out should display the driver’s name and phone number on a piece of paper on the dashboard of their vehicle. While we will make every effort to contact the driver when vehicles are improperly parked, NDPD and parking services reserve the right to tow vehicles at the owner's expense.

While staging lots are open at the times listed below, students will not be able to access campus through the gates for pick ups and drop offs. Students using ride share options to assist with their move out will also need to access campus through the staging lots.

When staging lots are not open, vehicles may access campus at the times listed above to receive a 30-minute parking pass.

Staging Lots

NDPD Parking Services and Ushers will facilitate parking at residence halls during the days and times listed above.  Vehicles accessing campus for move-out should proceed to the Staging Lot listed below where vehicles will be released to halls based on parking spots available. Ride Share

Students accessing campus via ride share services like Uber or Lyft should use the Eck Visitor's Center or Hesburgh Library Circle while staging lots are open.

Please note:

  • Main Circle is not available for ride share map drop-off or pick-up during move-out staging lot hours listed above.
  • Ride share drivers are often unwilling to wait at staging lots, and the additional cost of waiting may not be feasible for students while the staging lots are open.
  • Ride share services will not be permitted through campus gates without a staging lot pass when staging lots are open.

Moving and Storage Companies

Many families and students choose to use third-party moving and storage companies at their own expense.

Moving and storage companies should be aware of truck and trailer restrictions when accessing campus. Any companies wishing to access campus while staging lots are active should access campus for the residence halls at the designated staging lot. Moving and storage companies may also receive a 30-minute gate pass as needed to complete their work.

The University of Notre Dame and Residential Life does not endorse any storage companies, we are happy to connect with companies to work efficiently on campus. Companies wishing to connect regarding campus policies may contact Ben Wood at bwood2@nd.edu
